Our vision is to see disciple making initiatives in global cities around the world, starting in North America.
Several factors are converging to change the context of global missions throughout the world, both in North America and around the globe. For the first time in history the majority of people on our planet lives in cities. We are more connected and more mobile than ever before through modern transportation and technology. The 21st century is experiencing the largest global migration in the history of the world. Jesus said to go to all nations, and now we have the opportunity to reach the nations next door. And while cities host increasing global diversity, one of the fastest growing religious demographics in North America is the non-religious.
Global City Mission exists to address these realities. We are making disciples at the world’s crossroads.
What we do…
Evangelism & Church Planting
Every week, our Mission Catalysts share the message of the Gospel with those who have not yet heard or have not committed themselves to following Jesus. Throughout the week, our neighbors – originating from a variety of nations from every continent around the world – are hearing about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are forming cross-cultural friendships, communicating the Good News about Jesus, and forming relationships around grassroots discipleship.
The primary task of GCMI missionaries is to compassionately communicate the Gospel in global cities with the goal of making disciples and planting faith communities. We work to find people who are receptive to learning & growing through God’s word. In order to better equip our neighbors to make disciples through the relationships they have with others – whether in their neighborhood or back in their home country – we intentionally start groups that are simple and reproducible. We emphasize outreach, forming disciples, & gathering communities of faith in ways which will result in both a local and global impact.
Coaching believers to become disciple-makers
In many cities, there is a missionary force waiting to be released. Many followers of Jesus desire to make a difference for God’s Kingdom but feel they lack an understanding of where to begin. Some believers are active in their faith but struggle to speak about it with others in their neighborhood, family, or workplace. For many, cultural barriers can discourage believers from seeking to form relationships with their international neighbor. In some instances, Christian leaders have a vision for sending believers on mission but they need help turning that vision into reality. Mission Catalysts are needed to mobilize or equip these believers through additional training to help advance the Gospel within their city.
At GCMI, one of the key ways we seek to reach others is by equipping local believers to reach their own communities. Global City Mission seeks to coach believers to make disciples of Christ through reaching out to friends, family, neighbors, co-workers and bridging to other nearby cultural groups. Through modeling, coaching, and/or training, Global City Mission works to unleash Christian believers to make disciples and start new discipleship communities right where they are. Mission Catalysts are actively equipping believers to be part of an evangelistic movement in their city.
Equipping Churches to reach their communities
One of the challenges facing the church today is reaching people in diverse & rapidly changing cities. Global City Mission is helping to navigate disciple-making in diverse communities, so the church is able to make an evangelistic impact among new people.
Global City Mission is living our ministry at the missionary edges of our society. As a result, we’re translating what we’re learning from experience and bridging that experience to the local church. Our team is dedicated to working alongside existing churches to unleash the Gospel in their increasingly diverse communities. Every set of circumstances is different and presents its own challenges and unique opportunities. We hope to bring experiences from the missionary edges of our society to help existing congregations become a missionary force in their own communities. We hope that the experiences of our team bring an ability to identify with people outside of the church and to help believers to think “out-of-the-box.” Global City Mission aims to serve as a guide to help equip churches for disciple-making in a diverse global world.
