Several days a week I try to spend some time at a local hangout spot to try to meet new people. If the opportunity presents itself, I look for chances to plant a Gospel seed.
I’m sitting at the Buzz Mill right now as I write this. Its a great little local coffee shop/bar/concert venue/food truck trailer park complete with a BBQ and vegan taco trailer. You know… a pretty typical place.
I had Jack with me, like I normally do, but this time they said I had to stay outside with him. That’s pretty rare for a place in Austin. Its one of the most dog friendly cities around.
Anyway, I grabbed a Mexican coke and looked for a table outside. I sat down down at a table with a well dressed man I had never met, about my age with an epic beard.
I found out he just moved here from New Mexico about a month ago and is searching for a job in marketing. I sipped on a coke while he put away his 2nd double shot glass and 2nd draft beer.
I asked him if he was a part of any of the local beard clubs, he asked me about my business (my laptop has my business name on it). Then he asked me a surprising question… “wait, are you Jordan Bunch?” “Yes, I am.” “No WAY! I’m Samuel Bunch!”
If you can imagine, its pretty rare for us Bunches to run into each other if we don’t already know each other. Whats more is that we just happened to sit at the same table.
Over the next hour we talked about family, life, job searches, spirituality, community, the purpose of life, his favorite sandwich shops and breweries, God and a host of other things. I explained what kind of spiritual community we were trying to start to which he was incredibly interested in. After coming back from a smoke break, he asked for my phone number because he was needing to leave but wanted to hangout soon. He said he’ll text me tomorrow because he wanted to grab some drinks and talk more.
As he was grabbing his bags I let him know I’d be praying for his job search.
So join me in praying.
Pray to the Lord of the Harvest to raise up workers for the harvest fields.
Pray for Samuel to find a great job and to find the answers in life He has been searching for.
Pray for continued relational favor with our neighbors and random strangers we meet at random locations. The harvest is great, but the workers are few.
