This afternoon one of my weekly Bible Studies met up. For about two months I have been meeting with 4 international students from Columbia University to read scriptures together and learn more about who God is through an inductive study approach. This week, we read about Abraham and how he was asked to sacrifice his son. The students were amazed at how, without hesitation, Abraham prepared to sacrifice his son. They talked about what it might look like if Abraham didn’t obey God’s command and what they would have done in that situation. Everyone concluded that God deserves respect and obedience and when there are tough choices to make, the best decision to make is one that would respect or honor God.
At the end of the study, we always ask the same two questions: What are we going to do to put this into practice? And who are we going to share with about what we learned today?. One of the students was so excited to share, because Lunar (Chinese) New Year is this weekend, and she will be Skyping with her extended family back in China. She said that she looks forward to sharing with them all of the stories that she had learned so far. Please pray for this student and the witness she will be giving over the weekend. Pray that her family not only be receptive to these stories, but also desire to hear and learn more about who God is. Pray that this student, as well as the rest, will be eager to continue our study and come to understand the sacrifice of Jesus due to God’s overwhelming love for us.
