In the past few months I have discovered something wonderful: It’s called “Global City Mission Initiative.”
This is a growing network of simple church communities, beginning in New York City and spreading to other cities – even touching other parts of the world. I am impressed by GCMI’s well trained leaders who are thoroughly experienced urban missionaries. Started by Jared and Hylma Looney, other outstanding couples are now seeking support to join GCMI full-time, with still more in the training pipeline.
The strategy is so simple: identify ‘persons of peace’ among those that cluster from all over the world into the larger urban centers, then mentor and train these persons into self-initiating disciples and form them into small, reproducing communities of faith. Then keep expanding a network of communities. Networks of these faith communities are already flourishing vibrantly in places New York City, and new efforts are being launched in Los Angeles and Denver – with a vision to impact still other cities.
Global City Mission Initiative is now a tax-exempt 501(c)3. This mission is well-deserving of our support. You can follow their progress on-line at globalcitymission.org. And sign up for their Newsletter. Or, better yet, go and personally visit with them onsite in the city. You will be impressed and inspired.
Hats off to the missionaries of Global City Mission Initiative. May your tribe increase.
