Recently I had the opportunity to work again at the library with Mrs. Lopez. I am so thankful that God provided a fantastic full hour of discussion between her and I in a quiet room where we were only interrupted a handful of times. As we cut out construction paper, She shared with me her current struggles with forgiveness towards some leadership within her church community. Through the conversation, I learned how this community is quite legalistic. There is a strict uniform that each member wears and each member has a publicized ranking within the church. She also shared a lot about her fear of not measuring up or doing enough to get into heaven, and she has been so discouraged that she doesn’t enjoy even being there. Last weekend, her and her husband just almost walked out of the service.
In light of the situation, we discussed Biblical principles about faith, forgiveness, and being part of a church body. There was no question about the reconciliation that was needed between specific members in that faith community and the immense strength that God can provide during such an emotionally difficult time. We also discussed the possibility of her and her husband starting up a Discovery Bible Study with her community (family, close friends, etc.) during the week. As she continues to process this idea, please pray. It would so beautiful for her to experience discovering the truth of God’s Word in such an inductive way and the discussions that would take place in a safe and authentic community.

On another note, Mrs. Lopez and a 21-year-old Dominican student worker “Alina” have invited me to join the two of them on a short trip in early July. This will be a fantastic opportunity to share with them without caution due to the rules when volunteering at the library as well as other distractions. Please pray that this works out! And pray that our sister in Christ might be mobilized to reach her community and find a deeper contentment and peace in the Lord.
