When an earthquake rocked the country of Morocco in 2023, one of the communities that responded from around the world were Moroccans in Washington D.C. The Washington metro area may be home to as many as 28,000 Moroccans. More than half of Moroccan migrants to the United States arrived after 2000, and with over 200 Million dollars in remittances flowing from the United States to Morocco, that is a clear indication that many in the Moroccan community maintain transnational connections to family, friends, & institutions in their homeland.
New York City, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, and Washington each host significant Moroccan population, and worldwide Moroccan Arabs are 99% Muslim. For those who desire to pursue pioneer church planting among North African Arabs, the Washington D.C. metro area may be a strategic ‘mission field.’
