What is a Disciple-Maker Cohort like?
Training sessions includes teaching focused on healthy evangelism practices and starting a discovery group through outreach, and cohort meetings emphasize coaching based on hands-on evangelistic practice taking place between sessions. Cohorts typically meet virtually as a small group on Zoom for 90-minute training & coaching sessions. This creates the opportunity for participants to collaborate from various locations, without geographic limitations.
What does the training cover?
Disciple-Maker Cohorts are designed to equip participants to apply relational evangelism practices and to seek the opportunity to start a new discovery group through outreach in their community or city. Training sessions include: 1) Foundations for healthy evangelism & starting spiritual conversations; 2) Discovering relational inroads; 3) Sharing gospel stories; 4) Building on spiritual conversations; 5) Identifying persons of peace; 6) Facilitating discovery bible discussions; and 7) Moving forward & aiming for multiplication.
How many times does the cohort meet?
Disciple-Maker Cohorts meet for 7 sessions for up to 90 minutes each. Oftentimes, cohorts meet every two weeks. Some cohorts are scheduled to follow a weekly schedule, but most cohorts run an every-other-week schedule.
How much does it cost?
It costs $95 per person to participate in a Disciple-Maker Cohort. However, our desire is to make participation in a cohort as accessible as possible. If individuals participate in all 7 sessions of the Disciple-Maker Cohort, they have the option of receiving a 100% rebate of the fee at the conclusion of the cohort.
Is there a student price?
Yes! We highly encourage college/seminary students to participate. The student cost is $35. The rebate for full participation is also eligible under the student price as long as you make it to all 7 sessions.
Why do you offer the rebate?
While making your financial commitment represents an investment to be equipped, Global City Mission is emphasizing your investment of time. Any financial contribution is very helpful to us as a mission organization; however, we are prioritizing the time you are investing to become a disciple-maker in your city. Global City Mission wants to make Disciple-Maker Cohorts as accessible as possible. We value your time commitment to participate in this training, coaching, and to hands-on practice.
What if I miss a session?
The purpose of the rebate is to emphasize your time investment. Therefore, yes you would not be in a position to rebate the training fee if you miss a session. If you can’t make all 7 sessions, you might consider waiting until it fits your calendar to participate in each of the 7 sessions.
What should I expect to get out of it?
Joining a Disciple-Maker Cohort is an opportunity to learn along with a small group of believers who share the same desire to make disciples. You will receive training in a relational approach to evangelism that feels healthy and is rooted in biblical principles, and it is not just training content. Starting during the second week, group members are coached based on their own experiences of putting the training into practice between meetings. By participating in a Disciple-Maker Cohort, you can expect to grow as a disciple-maker, learn practical approaches for reaching others, utilizing the flexibility of a virtual platform, share the experience with a small group who is learning along with you, and increase the potential for making an impact in your community.
Can my church sign up its members to participate in a cohort?
Our whole purpose and goal of offering training by Global City Mission is to mobilize disciple-makers. If a church would like to organize or sponsor a small group of their members to participate in a cohort, that is definitely an option to explore specific to each church. In fact, one of our first Disciple-Maker Cohorts was a group of college students all from the same campus ministry. Contact Global City Mission to coordinate a Disciple-Maker Cohort with your church.
